Reggaeton star’s co-penned tracks with Pitbull accounted for 41% of the new year’s most popular chart
Bad Bunny and Olivia Rodrigo topped Spotify streams in 2021
The popularity of Pitbull’s co-written beats with R&B artist Bad Bunny on top of his own efforts saw him take the top spot on Spotify’s list of the world’s most-streamed songs in 2021.
The list was compiled by Spotify, after the discovery that the exact same song, Revolucion, repeated on the respective lists in both 2018 and the coming year. The numbers, taken from the initial stream counts of Spotify plays across the globe, showed that Revolucion was streamed 141m times in the last year.
When Spotify compared this to the record of 50m worldwide streams for the year prior, it recognised that Revolucion was the most popular track, claiming a 42% share of the global chart.
The strength of its numbers continued into next year, with Mr Worldwide occupying the second most popular spot in the world’s most-streamed songs, with his track Kartel, Billboard reported.

The music stream site chose to list the four most popular tracks, with the fourth slot reserved for Kacy Hill’s Not Just Anybody.
The top three tracks were shared among many more artists, with artists such as Drake, Camila Cabello, J Balvin, Cardi B, Travis Scott, Machine Gun Kelly, Fall Out Boy, Zedd, Nicki Minaj, Shruti Ganguly, Casper, G-Eazy, Honcho, Khalid, X Ambassadors, Wale, DJ Khaled, Brand New, Erika Ender, and more all making it to Spotify’s top 100 streamed songs list.
Bad Bunny became the first Caribbean artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 with his remix of the Mexican band reggaeton, who they were playing alongside, including Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, when they had a smash hit with the song Despacito.
He is also one of the biggest stars in Colombia, sharing top spot in a similar ranking on Billboard in 2011, where he was listed as one of the most played artists in the world that year.
Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo has had several hit songs in the US such as Gentleman and I Wanna Kiss You. She also wrote songs for Nicki Minaj including Anaconda, Barbs and the Grammy nominated feat. Jay Z on her mixtape I Know That She Loves Me.
